Home Nursing for DeKalb Families

DeKalb is one of the busiest counties in metro Atlanta, and the families who call us from here often have very different weeks. A parent in Decatur may be balancing a commute downtown, while a family in Lithonia may spend long stretches on I-20 getting to appointments. A child who needs a feeding pump, oxygen or seizure watch at home needs a plan that fits that reality.

Our team coordinates DeKalb cases from our office at 4751 Best Road in College Park. We try to match nurses to families with the drive in mind, so the person caring for your child is not crossing the whole metro at rush hour for every shift.

Where We Travel

DeKalb Cities and Communities We Reach

These are some of the DeKalb cities where families ask us about care. If your street is not listed, call and ask; we will be honest about whether we can staff your shifts.

Decatur

The county seat, with older neighborhoods and many families living close to the Emory and Druid Hills area.

Stone Mountain and Lithonia

The eastern side of the county, where longer drives make a nearby, consistent nurse especially valuable.

Tucker

A central DeKalb city where we coordinate day, evening and overnight shifts around school and work.

Chamblee and Doraville

Close in northern cities along Buford Highway, home to families from many backgrounds.

Brookhaven

A north DeKalb city along North Druid Hills Road, near the I-85 corridor.

Dunwoody

The northern edge of the county near I-285 and GA-400, where we plan travel around rush hour.

Coming Home

Leaving the Hospital for Home in DeKalb

Many DeKalb children spend time at a nearby children’s hospital, such as a Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta hospital on North Druid Hills Road in DeKalb County. We are not affiliated with any hospital. When a discharge planner or case manager gives you a list of home care agencies, you can choose us, and we will work with the orders your child’s doctor writes.

Bring your discharge plan, equipment list and medicine list to intake. We use them, along with the doctor’s orders, to plan shifts so the move from a hospital room to your living room feels less sudden.

What We Provide

Care We Bring to DeKalb Homes

The Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP) is a Georgia Medicaid program, administered by the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH), that provides in home skilled nursing and personal care support for medically fragile children ages 0-21. The rules are the same in DeKalb as in every other Georgia county.

Common Questions

Questions From DeKalb Families

Does living in DeKalb change how GAPP works?

No. Eligibility and prior authorization follow the same steps whether you live in Decatur or Dunwoody. Your child must be Medicaid eligible, and the state makes the final decision based on medical need documented by the doctor. See the official GAPP policy manual from Georgia Medicaid.

There is no out of pocket cost for approved hours when approved by Georgia Medicaid. If your child has private insurance, Medicaid can act as secondary coverage.

Some children qualify through the Katie Beckett (TEFRA) pathway, which looks at the child’s own income and resources rather than the parents’. Read our Katie Beckett guide.

Often, yes. Depending on the authorization, care can continue at school or daycare, and we help plan shifts around family travel too.

Yes. Families choose their GAPP provider and may change agencies. See how switching works.

The state approves hours based on documented need and reviews them periodically. If your child’s needs change, we can help you request an update.
